Ask new users in onboarding if they want to learn with or without ads
Significantly higher uptake; one of the biggest wins of the year
Workedonboardingpaywall
What they did
Instead of dropping the standard Super Duolingo upsell into the onboarding flow, make the offer contextual to onboarding: ask 'How do you want to achieve your goals? With ads or without ads? Learn faster or at your own pace?' so the subscription is part of the onboarding answers. New users are far more likely to convert than existing ones.
What happened
Significantly higher take rate than the standard upsell placed in onboarding; one of the biggest wins of the previous year.
In their words
Sub Club by RevenueCat · How Clarity and Personalization Help Drive Duolingo’s Growth – Anmol Tiwari, Duolingo“we found that it's much better to actually make it contextual to the onboarding. So as an example, we asked like, "How do you want to learn or how do you want to achieve your goals? Is it with ads or without ads?”
“we saw significantly higher kind of uptick rate. It was one of our biggest wins last year.”
