What they did

Instead of the 14- or 30-day trials common in fitness apps, the $99 annual plan (down from $129) has a 7-day free trial, meant to push users to try the app quickly and commit.

What happened

No drop in conversion to trial; annual trial-to-paid went from the 30s to ~56%, and annual share from ~30% to ~60%, alongside other changes.

This shipped together with other changes, so the result can't be credited to this alone.

“A lot of apps give 30-day free trials or even 14-day trials, but we saw that, you know, getting them to a shorter trial led to higher commitment, higher engagement, them rushing into giving it a try, and and we actually didn't see a drop in conversion.”

“At this point, we're getting about 60% of the users choosing the annual plan and about 56% conversion from annual conversion from trial to paid on the annual, so.”
