Pivot to a job board after visitors kept looking for an apply button
Led to the first paying clients
What they did
What happened
In their words
$60k/m from a job board
PhilSo, I was just wondering like, uh did you start with the commission model, um and you know, how long did it take to get your first dollar, or yen, I guess? Was it a long time?
Eric Turner… a little bit of basic value, and it did get like some uh, you know, some views and everything when it came out. Like the launch did relatively well, actually, but then it dropped off immediately. And then, it became clear pretty quickly that there were some issues with that, you know what I mean? Um, for one thing, companies are super strict about their image, and they don't want to really be involved with any kind of site where there's uh the ability to just write reviews, cuz people can lie, people can just write, you know, negative things about them. Um, so that was basically a non-starter. So, I pivoted toward uh the the job board idea. I was like, "Okay, people want" You know, people would load the site, look at it for, you know, 10 seconds or whatever, and then be confused, cuz there's no apply button. "How do I actually How do I apply to these jobs?" And uh so I added that and pivoted to being an actual job board. Uh so then, from there, I was able to start getting some actual clients. So, I then had the uh potential to make some money. But, sadly, there was a period of time pretty long period of time, it was actually about a year, where I was basically grinding, and um, you know, I already had companies, posted jobs, but there just weren't very many applicants yet. And um, for whatever reason, it just took almost like 12 months um before I actually got my first dollar from the site. And that was the hardest part of the whole business that, by a a wide margin. I was still working my day …
PhilYeah, I I know how you feel. It can take longer than you think. Um, I was just going to ask, as well, about like, you know, Japan doesn't have the greatest uh work-life balance, I guess. Um, I was wondering if that's changing? Um, is that uh getting better? Or is it still 10-hour shifts?
