Sell the maps on SD cards in hunting stores first, then use that money to build the app

Sold out right away in Montana; buyers asked for other states; funded the app

Workedvalidationfinancingin-person

What they did

Founder combined public data (county private land parcels, Forest Service and BLM maps, topo, satellite imagery) into maps loadable onto a micro SD card for Garmin GPS units. Sold the 'chip' through sporting goods stores with a 'Get the chip' campaign, starting in Montana, then expanded state by state. Chip revenue funded building the mobile app once phone GPS got good enough.

What happened

Sold out immediately in Montana and customers asked for other states; chip sales funded the mobile app.
