ChartDB · B2B · database diagram tool for developers
Let developers try it with no signup, no database login and nothing to install
Developers adopted it after an earlier version needing credentials stalled

What they did
Their first product, an AI database client, needed database credentials and a local install; without trust from engineers, adoption stalled. ChartDB was redesigned around developer constraints: no signup, no sales calls, no credentials, no install. The user picks their database, runs one provided 'smart query' in their own client, pastes the JSON output and clicks import to see the full diagram. A more visual 'wow' result also helped.
What happened
The earlier product 'had a big stop'; the no-friction visual version drove developer engagement and growth
- Stage
- Launch (Pivot before launch)
“That product needed to provide like access, they needed credentials to connect to your database, to run all those queries, and you need to install something on your machine. And without any credibility and trust from the engineers, we say like, "All right, it's too tough."”
“So, let's say you don't need to provide any access, and you don't need to install any software on your machine. So, reducing that friction really helped to provide engagement from developers.”
“that's why ChartDB had no sign up, no sales calls. You don't need to provide any credentials.”
