Steve Young - Beginners Guide to Buying & Selling Apps 2026
Steve Young… too. [laughter] Yeah. I tried to talk to a lot of people and I'm like, "What are you guys doing?" And I'm just like, because we we just launched our Meta campaigns, and I was like, "Dude, release them all. Like I don't give a crap. Let Meta I think what I've learned is just don't try to outsmart the algorithm. They're smart. Let them do their thing. Give them everything that they might need and let them figure it out based off your objectives."
Steve YoungSo the last thing, and I got some good feedback, we talked about hard paywall, so I started thinking like hard paywall on paid traffic, right? And only because of the one-star reviews. Now, I know you can do this with some integration with Superwall and Apphud, and but I'm going to kind of share this. So this is obvious this is Recipe Maker, you have these normal onboarding flows, "How old are you?" and then "Where did you hear about us?" From what I've heard from others, "Where did you hear about us?" is a great way to as a backup MMP or a backup to your attribution. So and then obviously, you get to the paywall. So I started thinking like, what if on if they search for the App Store, or they heard it through a friend, you're going to hit them with a soft paywall, just to negate some of the one-star reviews, right?
Steve YoungNegate one-star. So you have the X right here. But if they came in from Instagram and Facebook, why don't we just remove it? And it's And I think this is the next phase of monetization, is and so it worked, right? This Lucas from Apphud shared this on LinkedIn, and talked about the integration with Superwall and Apphud, and how that performed a lot better for this guy on Twitter. But I started thinking through like these onboarding screens that we all have, could you prequalify people?
Steve YoungSo could you show a higher price for those that are coming in You know, there's other screens where it's like, "What are you here for?" You know, like, "Eating healthy." Using those as an indication to like, do I do a soft paywall or hard paywall? Do I increase the price or not increase the price? And I think like apps like Uber, apps like DoorDash, you know, they're they're all doing it already based off like Uber, you know, if you're coming in …
