Steve Young - Beginners Guide to Buying & Selling Apps 2026
Joseph ChoiThere's a lot of like well-known, like respected, like high-quality apps, and it's just hard paywall. Like it's just a I think it's just like a normal thing now.
Steve YoungThe 5 million, all organic, hard paywall. The way I define it is the no X. When we launch the the app that I was talking to about, we did a soft paywall with no trials. Probably call it, I would say soft paywall, no trials, it was converting, because it was niche enough that it was converting. And then we went hard paywall with a trial, and it started to perform a little bit better. There's ways, and Superwall makes it super easy, but there's ways to do a hard paywall and still try to leverage a soft paywall, right? Using exit intent, using all these other strategies, you can still kind of mimic a soft paywall. For me, in the beginning, you want to do a hard paywall, cuz you just want to force the issue. You want to see product-market fit, and there's no better way to force a product-market fit test than doing a hard paywall. That means no X.
Steve YoungFor me, Joseph, I don't know what you've seen, but typically seen better results with trials than without trials, for the most part. Some apps I've seen, no trials works pretty well, but for me, most of the time, generically speaking, having a trial tends to work a bit better than not having a trial.
