Celebrate each logged workout with a shareable progress card, like total pounds lifted

Founder says it matters for virality; word of mouth is still a major growth driver

What they did

Designed the product hook on Nir Eyal's Hooked model (trigger, action, reward, investment): trigger is uncertainty about what to do in the gym, action is opening the app for your next workout, and after logging a workout the app celebrates it with achievements and progress signals. The reward is made visible and shareable, e.g. a share screen showing total pounds lifted in the workout, so users show the value they get and prospective users see it.

What happened

Guest calls it important for virality; word of mouth remains a major growth driver even though Fitbod is not a naturally social product.

“We make the reward visible, meaning after you log a workout, we kind of celebrate it with various achievements and signals of progress.”
Jesse Venticinque
“And so making that reward visible and shareable, which we've invested in quite a bit, I think has been important for a virality and allowing our customers to like show the value they're getting from the product.”

“And like one of the cool things y'all do in the sharing screen, it showed the total pounds lifted in a workout.”
