What they did
Timberman-style game promoted a free bonus via AppAdvice (Indie App Santa is an alternative). On first open the app gives 2,000 free coins, then asks 'Want to double that by watching a video?'. Monetizes users immediately, and the coins pull them into the game, giving them something to lose.
What happened
Ad (AdMob) revenue increased every time the campaign ran; most users watched the video to double
“Say, "Hey, here you go, free 2,000 coins for free."”
“And when we ran this campaign, Mo, we saw an increase in our AdMob or our ad revenue every time we ran it.”
