What they did
Built from on-device receipt data across 22,000+ apps. Waited years until the customer base was representative of the App Store and the analysis was rigorous (data scientist plus business analyst). Everything averaged above a minimum threshold, apps with tiny data sets excluded, each app weighted equally, no scatterplots, and developers can opt out. Reported as quartiles plus median, not means. Released as a PDF at revenuecat.com/report, with a companion podcast, blog posts and a yearly update planned; readers asked to email feedback.

Sub Club by RevenueCat · How’s Your App Really Doing? The State of Subscription Apps 2023“And we are on the device tracking receipts, which gives us the 100% visibility into the lifecycle of individual users, which then, from there, you can build up into basically any aggregate you want.”
“Yeah, we Everything has got to be averaged together, above a certain threshold, and all this stuff.”
“So, if your app is like 10,000 10 times bigger than another app, but your, you know, your your 15% conversion rate only gets counted the same as somebody who's much, much smaller, right? And that's by design.”
