Send social ad clicks to a personalized web quiz and checkout, then into the app

What they did
Run paid ads on social platforms that land on a web funnel (personalization questions building buying intent), then paywall and web checkout, then push the paid user into the app. Works best for apps with a large personalization component and high-intent users: health and fitness, wellness, education/language learning. Less proven for productivity (e.g. note-taking) and media, where there is little to personalize. Experiment on the funnel, paywall and checkout end to end, cut friction, and study which routes through the funnel produce a buying signal. Content marketing landing pages are another entry point.
What happened
Guest reports really good conversion rates and good renewal rates for web funnels in health and fitness, education and wellness; no figures given.
In their words
Sub Club by RevenueCat · How to Maximize Web Subscriptions for Sustainable Growth — Lucas Lovell, Paddle“the classic categories there are health and fitness. We're seeing a lot of web funnels in health and fitness, education as well, so language-learning apps, wellness apps, who are all using that effectively, and introducing the web funnel off the back of a paid ad on a social media platform”
“seeing really good conversion rates and then also good renewal rates as well on those subscriptions too.”
