Sold out in 2-3 days for $20K before any code was written

What they did
After mocking up the product, offered 50 lifetime licenses at an 'absurdly low' price. The first 10 were cheapest and the price rose for each following batch of 10 to create FOMO. An offer so good people say yes, even if the first 10 were not profitable. Money-back guarantee: buyers could ask for a refund at any time; product promised within 60 days, then 2 more weeks to try it and request a refund. Treated a sell-out as validation.
What happened
Sold out within 2-3 days, ~$20K collected before building; profitable from day one
- Stage
- Pre-launch (Pre-launch validation)
- Effort
- 50 licenses, one presale
“The presale was 50 licenses of the software that are basically lifetime subscriptions to it, and it was at kind of an absurdly low price.”
“The first 10 licenses were super, super cheap, and then every 10 after that went up. So there was a little bit of FOMO for those early adopters. Pretty quickly, it sold out, I think within 2 or 3 days, and I made my first $20,000 before the idea was even built.”
“So the entire time in between when the presale happened and when the product was delivered, they could ask for their money back.”
