Read your reviews and rivals' reviews, then fix what people complain about
Credited as the main driver to #1 for 'VPN'; no single number tied to it

What they did
Right after taking over the acquired app, read its App Store reviews and competitors' reviews, looking not for missing features but for complaints ('What are people complaining about?'). Fixed friction and service-quality problems first: picking the best server and protocol per user location, handling blocks (e.g. airlines blocking VPN traffic as bots). Treated the last 15% of quality as the moat since the first 85% of a VPN is a commodity.
What happened
Guest attributes the climb to #1 mostly to service quality found through reviews; 'slowly and surely it went up'.

In their words
Sub Club by RevenueCat · How the World's #1 VPN App Reached 1 Billion Downloads – Tanuj Chatterjee, Super Unlimited“we basically looked at the app, started looking at the reviews right away, started looking at our competitor's reviews right away to see what's missing in our app, not in terms of feature functionality, but, "What are people complaining about?" And we started fixing those things”
“we looked into reviews, what's keeping us away from being the number one product. A lot of it came back to service quality for us”
