What they did
Starting out: DM 100 people a day; the first words of the DM are 'Paid promo?' or 'Paid promo for your company' so busy influencers don't skip it. When a creator replies, text your phone number and say 'let's hop on a call soon'; negotiate on the phone, not in DMs. If they try to hard-close over text ('I'm busy, what's your offer?'), say to call when free: you're the one paying. His playbook also says to boost a personal Instagram account with bought followers and paid verification for credibility at first, then switch to the business account after a few deals, and to hire an overseas VA for mass DMs at the start. Now that the brand is known in wrestling, he DMs from the business account himself: scrolls a wrestling-tuned For You page for 20 minutes a day, messages as many as possible, and calls them all the next day to close.
What happened
Paid influencer marketing is the whole growth strategy; ~$500 in spend this month with ~$13K revenue so far this month. Response rates rose once the brand was known
- Stage
- Month two onward, after saturating the co-founder's audience
- Effort
- ~20 minutes a day of DMs plus next-day calls; ~$500-750 a month of creator spend
“Step two, the first words of your DM should be "Paid promo" and then like question mark or "Paid promo for your company," etc.”
“So, once they respond, text them your phone number and just say, "Hey, let's hop on a call soon."”
“I scroll for 20 minutes a day. Our For You page is catered to the wrestling niche, message as many people as I can in that 20 minutes, and then the next day, let's say I would hop on the phone with all of them and close the deals.”
