Great results at $100/day, then scaled up; no numbers given

What they did

Once an organic video passes ~5% engagement rate, put spend behind it on Meta (SideShift runs Meta primarily, for its B2B product). Start around $100/day total across the winners (e.g. ~$33 each for 3 videos) for the first 14 days, adjusted for trial length. Track trial starts and conversions via UTM links. If ROAS is positive (e.g. $200 in, $400 out), step up to $300/day, then $1,000/day; if you get 75 cents per dollar, stop. Start paid only after organic content-market fit and once total marketing budget exceeds ~$10K/month.

What happened

SideShift started at ~$100/day and saw great results, then scaled spend with more creative.

Joseph ChoiIt sounds like the platform is really useful, like operationally, regardless of the platform, like how how should you run your organics? Like if you're getting your next wave of creators on and you're starting to kind of pop off, like 50,000 views, 100,000 views here and there, like what do you what should you be doing with Meta ads?

28:38

Nick LawtonI think what you should be doing with Meta ads is you should be taking your top winners once they hit a certain engagement rate. Everyone has a different engagement rate that it works upon for them. Our engagement rate is around 5%. That's what we see work really well. Once that happens, we're going to allocate some spend behind it, and we're going to basically just test and start to see what the conversion looks like. Now, the great thing about paid ads at the end of the day is it solves the old

29:06

Nick Lawtonthe age-old question of organic marketing, which is where's the attribution? Luckily with paid, you have attribution, it allows you to justify putting more spend behind certain things. You know, organic is is is tricky because you have correlation spikes, you know, we have the ability to connect your RevenueCat, your Superwall, your Stripe, all these different things, and you can see correlation spikes when, you know, you get a big view spike, …

31:16

Joseph Choiuh just spending, like even beyond the Meta Ads Manager itself, it's just like, well, what are you supposed to spend on these initial winners?

31:24

Nick LawtonI can make some assumptions off of that. Like let's say, you started with that 2 to $4,000 budget, you found content market fit, now your budget has grown to over 10,000 a month for marketing, including organic and paid. I would start just simple, maybe 100 bucks a day, see how that bodes for the first 14 days, contingent on obviously like what your funnel looks like, what does your free trial look like, all that stuff. Are you a 7-day free trial? Are you a 14-day free trial? But

31:49

Nick LawtonI would start there. If you're seeing a positive ROAS, which you should if you're doing it properly, then you can start to allocate more spend into that.

31:56

Joseph ChoiIs that $100 per day per ad or just total?

32:00

Nick LawtonCollective across how many videos you're running. Maybe you're only running three, so, right, you're allocating 33 bucks across the board to each video. That's like It's It's going to be pretty small. To give you an example, when we first started running paid ads, we were running at an extremely small scale, we were doing like 100 bucks a day. We started seeing great results. Obviously, as we had more creative, and we started to put more money behind it, but $100 a day is like enough to get your feet wet and be like, "Okay, like this starts This is starting to make sense

32:28

Nick Lawtonfor me. I'm seeing a positive return here. What does it look like if I now start spending $300 a day? What does it look like if I spend $1,000 a day?" So on and so forth.
