How Live Tourney grows

As a player in tournaments at his local course, noticed they used nothing for scoring. Asked the course pro why they didn't use Golf Genius (a product he'd used); the pro said it was too complicated and too expensive. Built a simple scoring tool for that course's first event, then kept improving it. Advises picking something you care about, finding where you can make it better, and building.

Kept a full-time senior engineering job at Meta for salary and benefits while building nights and weekends; the main block was 6:00-9:00 a.m. before work. Quit only once the business was at ~$350K ARR and doing both was no longer sustainable.

Players get a scorecard with a QR code at check-in; scanning it opens the event's leaderboard in the browser (Next.js web app, Firebase back end). They enter the code on their card or pick their group and enter scores hole by hole; the leaderboard updates in real time as others score.

While at Meta he never talked about Live Tourney on LinkedIn or other social media; after quitting he plans to be more public about what he's building.
