I Built A $30K/Month App: Here's My Exact Process [Idea, Build, Marketing]

Benjamin 'Benji' Chen, a 20-year-old NYU student who has built 45+ apps, runs Snag (10x Studio), an iOS app that finds free items nearby. Launched ~4 months earlier, it is at ~$30K MRR with 100K+ users and $80K+ total proceeds. Growth came from vetting UGC creators by interview (~10% pass), paying them a monthly retainer plus CPM, and turning videos over 50K views into Meta ads tested at $50/day and scaled while ROAS stays above 1. He builds apps in 4-5 hours from a marketing-first value proposition.

“you reach out to a bunch of creators first, and then filter them one by one by interviewing them to see whether they have that virality built in them.”

One ad took ~$3K of spend before returns went negative; more videos needed to keep scaling
“If they're doing over 50,000 views per video, then those are great videos that you can run on Meta ads.”

Benji's earlier apps (before Snag)

Filmed thousands of videos for earlier apps; no results given
“So if you don't have money to hire UGC creators or influencers, start filming them yourself. I filmed probably thousands of videos for my previous apps by myself.”

“So, you start from the marketing. So you reverse engineer the value proposition that you want to show in your app first. Then you could think, what would the app look like if you want to attract a user in 3 seconds?”

Founder credits it for a very high conversion rate; no rate given
“For Snag, it was very simple. You pay us a few dollars a month, and then you get access to products that are worth hundreds of dollars, and hence why I think we have a very high conversion rate.”
