What they did

Reached the Skibidi Toilet creator (DaFuq!?Boom!) early, at ~5M subscribers, and built a game with him on a 50/50 split. His audience followed a saga of characters but could only watch it; the game let them enter that world. He made one YouTube Shorts promotion; word of mouth did the rest. Good fits have an inside joke or a universe the game can extend, and comments that show a real community rather than follower count.

What happened

The single Short got 50M+ views; 2-3M downloads across iOS and Android in about two weeks before the game was pulled for undisclosed reasons.

Joseph ChoiWow. And was this with YouTube influencers?

Rafael KramerSo, I actually reached out to the creator of Skibidi Toilet, DaFuq!?Boom! and I kind of caught him a little bit earlier before he completely blew up. I mean, he has like more than 50 million subscribers, I believe, at the moment. But at the time he had like 5 million subscribers. So, he literally did one YouTube Shorts promotion. He made like one video on the game and that got like more than 50 million views, and that drove like a bunch of downloads. And then from there was kind of also word of mouth, which was a big factor.

Joseph ChoiWow. Okay, so you worked directly with the Skibidi Toilet guy, yeah. So, how how did you get in contact with the influencer? Like, you you did this, and you said you did it with other influencers, too?

34:19

Joseph ChoiThat's a great point. Yeah, like the follower count is does not always indicate, even like the engagement in the video doesn't always indicate that you can make an app out of this. What are the things that you look for?

Rafael Kramer… forehead, right? You could kind of like make a game about their big forehead and how you have to like clean their forehead or something. Like, you have to make something that's an extension of their content, that's funny, and that people will comment on, be like, "Oh, no way he made this game, blah, blah, blah. Let me go download it." So, that's like a way to like integrate into the content and not just like smack him into like uh, you know, a runner game, which is kind of boring. Or like they can have like a universe around them. Like for example, for the Skibidi Toilet mobile game, you know, he uploaded videos about this saga of like these characters and this universe that he built and his audience was invested in it, but it was only in video format. They couldn't actually enter that world and interact with it.

Rafael KramerSo, that was like a prime example of uh, you know, an influencer where a game just makes sense. And unfortunately, you know, that didn't really uh end up being a long-term thing, but even just in the couple weeks that we had it launched, it was performing really well.
