Ask for tracking permission the moment the app first opens
Least impact of all placements tested on sign-ups, trials, paying and activation

What they did
A/B tested where to place the iOS App Tracking Transparency prompt, expecting that showing it early would hurt sign-up or trial starts. Tested several placements (control vs multiple variants in Firebase/Mixpanel-style in-house tests). Showing it immediately on first launch had the least impact on everything, including conversion to paying and hard activation rate. Now rolled out across Aperture's apps.
What happened
First-launch placement had the least impact on sign-up, trial, paid conversion and hard activation; now used everywhere.
In their words
Sub Club by RevenueCat · App Optimization Through Experimentation — Hannah Parvaz, Aperture“But actually the place that it had the least impact on anything, including conversion to paying, including hard activation rate, was on first launch.”
“So as soon as someone opens the app for the first time, putting it straight there and just having them press <sighs> and moving on from there, which was shocking, but now we're rolling it out everywhere.”
