Offer the free trial during onboarding, then offer it again once users are warmer
Moving the trial later cut trial starts too much; kept it in onboarding
Workedpaywallonboardingexperimentation
What they did
Experimented with moving the trial offer later than the initial onboarding. Kept it in onboarding (not forced, closable) because far more people start trials there even if many cancel, then gave users further chances to start a trial later once they were warmer.
What happened
Far more trials start in the initial onboarding than when the offer is moved later; the team would not remove it after the test.
In their words
Sub Club by RevenueCat · App Optimization Through Experimentation — Hannah Parvaz, Aperture“we tried experimenting with moving the placement of the trial and there's no way like we would have removed it after the results we saw from that initial onboarding.”
“So we always give the opportunity to take out a trial earlier on. We don't force it. It's not like a hard, hard sell the whole way through, but we give the opportunity for trial and then give them more opportunities later after they're a bit warmer.”
