What they did
Gave the one-month MVP to his wrestling club to beta test. V1 had coaches hand weight-cut plans to athletes; the club didn't use it because of friction. Over July-August rebuilt it so the app generates plans for athletes directly, tested the weight cuts on himself, redesigned, and released in September.
What happened
Coach-first version failed with the beta club; the athlete-direct version launched in September and grew to ~39K downloads.

“The first version of the app was basically an app where the coach was supposed to give the weight cut plans to the athletes. However, I realized that there was a lot of friction using this concept, and my wrestling club didn't use the app.”
“I tested the app's weight cuts on myself and did a whole redesign, which I eventually released in September.”
