Name your app exactly the popular search word, like 'Mirror'
4,000-5,000 downloads a day; guest says the exact-match boost still works, but weaker

What they did
About a decade ago, host named his mirror app just 'Mirror' plus a Unicode symbol so it exactly matched the popular search 'mirror', which tens of thousands of people searched daily. The app itself was well rated (~4.9 stars). Guest confirms an exact name match still helps in 2023 (via 'focus'), but it no longer rockets an app to the top and he expects it to stop working eventually.
What happened
4,000-5,000 downloads a day at the time; today a smaller boost.

In their words
Sub Club by RevenueCat · Maximizing Organic Growth with App Store Optimization — Ariel Michaeli, Appfigures“My Mirror app was Mirror and a Unicode symbol, and it was an exact match for "mirror", and apparently tens of thousands of people were searching "mirror" every day, 'cause I was getting like 4,000, 5,000 downloads a day.”
“And, yeah, unfortunately that trick still works, and there are some apps that continue to take advantage of it, and it's pretty ugly.”
