Once Apple takes 30%, send paywall purchases to a web checkout
At least ~11% more ARPU; fewer buy up front but more stay
Workedpayments-checkoutpaywall
What they did
Only once out of Apple's Small Business Program (paying 30%, not 15%). Paywall CTA sends users to web checkout (e.g. Stripe). Expect a big drop in initial conversion but better trial-to-paid and retention, because the extra friction filters out people who would cancel immediately.
What happened
ARPU gain with a floor of ~11% in most tests; initial conversion down, trial-to-paid and retention up.
“if you're in the Apple Small Business Program, app-to-web is not for you. Wait until you're paying 30% to Apple.”
“You're going to see a big drop in initial conversion rate, but trial-to-paid and retention look so much better.”
