Let people pick: 3-7 days free, or 30 days for $4.99, both on yearly
~11% pick the paid trial; first purchases jump; fails if priced $2.99 or less

What they did
'Design your trial' soft paywall: two annual plans with different App Store Connect introductory offers, so the choice is the trial, not the plan length. Option A: free trial (3 or 7 days). Option B: 30-day pay-up-front intro offer at $3.99-$5.99 (seen $7.99 work; $2.99 or lower fails). CTA text changes with the selection ('Redeem 3 days for $0' / '30 days for $4.99'); show the renewal annual price (even in the plan selectors, performs just as well); update the timeline for the paid trial; still send a reminder near day 28. Often combined with the multi-page paywall.
What happened
~11% of buyers pick the 30-day paid trial (10.7-11.2% typical); its trial-to-paid matches or slightly beats the free trial; small trial-conversion lift but initial conversion rises a lot. Paid trials bring revenue up front, which helps 7-day ROAS optimization.
“One has an annual plan with a free trial selected, and the other one has an annual plan with a 30-day paid trial selected.”
“So, it'll say, redeem 3 days for $0 or 30 days for $4.99.”
“whatever the free trial conversion rate is from trial to paid, the 30-day paid trial is the same or maybe slightly higher”
