Clear 30 · B2C · app to quit or cut down weed
Say up front the app costs money, next to what the habit costs them
Onboarding conversion up about 3%; fewer 'it's paid' complaints

What they did
Copied from the Ahead onboarding: before the paywall, a slide says plainly 'this costs money, we're doing it fair, we have a fair trial', contrasting the cost of staying in the habit with the dream outcome, so users reach the payment page anchored to the habit's cost. Paired with messaging that it's more than a tracker (peer support specialist) to cut social media complaints about being paid (goal: -50%).
What happened
Increased conversion by ~3% in an A/B test
In their words
The Superwall Podcast · Asher Herbstman & Thatcher Clough - I Built a $30k/mo App That Helps You Quit Smoking“but really be like, "Hey, this costs money, we're doing it fair, we have a fair trial," showing a dream outcome and then anchoring it like a price anchor”
“Yeah, it actually increased our conversion by like 3%, which, you know, might seem like, oh, a small number, but like those things add up”
