What they did
He planned to release the app completely free, then the day before launch decided to charge a few dollars for some advanced features, mainly so paying users would justify the support requests. Plans: weekly $1.99, annual $19.99, lifetime $39.99. The core app stays usable for free, and unlike apps that push to convert on day one, users convert over weeks.
What happened
Most buyers choose lifetime (~60% of purchases, 80%+ of revenue), so MRR looks low. Download-to-paid is 5.47% on Day 1 and keeps growing to Day 35-60.

“In fact, I was going to put it completely free app and then, literally, the day before, I just decided that maybe due to some advanced features, if users are sending me support request, I just don't want to be bothered as much, so I literally just said, "Few dollars here and we'll see."”
“Honestly, majority of my purchases are for lifetime. I would say good 60% at this point. They also account for majority of the revenue, north of 80%, I think.”
“Mine is the opposite. Like, I have the lowest conversion Day 1, and I have the highest conversion like Day 60.”
“It's weekly is $1.99, annual is $19.99, and lifetime is $39.99.”
