GeoSports's 10 tactics

GeoSports · B2C · daily sports geography game

Reply went viral: ~40,000 players, then 150,000 players the next day

Stealth launch: sent the game to a few family members and friends and watched whether they shared it. Once they did, posted it to his social stories and a couple of X posts. The one that took off was a reply under his own unrelated NBA post: 'Hey, by the way, I made this game... I'd really appreciate if you guys all checked it out.' The game was 5 days old and retention wasn't ready.

~2,000 clicks a day, only ~2% of daily traffic

Every day, posts one of the five daily questions on X and on his Instagram story. He has made only one full video about GeoSports despite 4M+ followers.

Hosts almost always retweet, reaching new audiences; no numbers given

Created a 'host' role for sports media personalities and athletes on X. Watched for people with large followings who were liking posts about the game, DM'd them and asked if they wanted to host. Hosting means writing the five daily questions. When their game goes live he posts 'we have this person as host today', and the host almost always retweets it. No payment mentioned.

GeoSports · B2C · daily sports geography game

53% of players share; ~98% of traffic is word-of-mouth; 1M players in under a month

Each daily round ends with a result the player can share. Players share their score in group chats and on X, and friends who receive it play without knowing who the founder is. No email campaign was used. He recommends deliberately making the product shareable.

Founder credits near-zero friction for going viral on X

Shipped GeoSports as a website, not an app, so people who found it on X could play, and share, without leaving X or installing anything.

Non-coder shipped the game in a weekend

Gave regular Claude lots of detail about the game idea, asked it to research Maptap, and had it write a spec. When stuck, asked Claude and referred back to the spec; Claude recommended the tools to install. Took many screenshots of Vercel and domain setup screens and asked Claude what to do and whether his inputs were right. Worked about 8 hours on Sunday and cleared his Monday. Advice: block off 8 hours of uninterrupted work and ask your LLM whenever you get stuck.

Founder says simplicity drives daily habit; no retention numbers given

Landing page kept very simple on purpose: 'Daily Sports Geography Game, Tap Where It Happened, 5 Questions'. Each question is one clue; you tap the map and get scored by distance (green or yellow dot), then a result after five. They never had to teach anyone how to play. The business relies on players coming back every day.

Became the game behind ~$40K/month; no test of the idea itself

His brother showed him Maptap, a daily map game he loved. Maptap has no trivia or sports twist, so he built 'a remix of sorts' for sports fans: sports clues where you tap on the map where it happened. He had Claude research Maptap while writing the spec.
