What they did

Before the app existed, a co-founder started an Instagram account posting 'how I cook on Hinge' videos: actionable, sometimes humorous prompts people could put on their dating profile. Once some videos did well (after a couple of weeks), they added a link in bio to join the app's preorder. The prompt content later became a feature (prompt feedback) in the app.

Daniel HeintzmanWe tested a few different things. So, I think what's interesting is we actually had distribution before we launched the product. One of my co-founders started like an Instagram account and started posting like these videos. Basically, the concept is like how I cook on Hinge. And basically, it gives you like prompts on things you can say like on your profile. And so it was like very actionable things that people can add to their profile. But some of them were like more kind of funny and humorous. So, some of them like did quite well on the algorithm after only like a couple weeks of posting. And so, we added like a link on our bio to

And so what we did was in the first couple weeks of posting on Instagram, we asked our followers to DM us for a profile review. And then we'd ask them like for payment. So like, I think we was like asking for like $15. And if you send us screenshots of your profile, we'll give you like feedback manually. People were actually paying us before we built the app to give feedback on their profile.

Daniel HeintzmanUm just based off of like the traction we had been getting on our social media and our on our Instagram specifically. And so, I think that was like a good way to get like a proof of concept out in terms of like um that this was actually an idea that people were willing to pay for.
