Cap Apple ads at about $1 per install and keep them running
$800 in ads brought $3,000 in revenue; turning ads off later was a mistake

What they did
App earned $1,400 revenue / $1,000 profit a month from organic ASO. First Apple Ads ran at a loss, so he tightened toward a ~$1 cost per install, then used an Apple Search Ads Basic campaign (the forerunner of Max Conversions) told to buy installs only under $1. Spent $800 and made $3,000 that month, with slightly higher profit than organic-only and much higher sales. Later turned ads off because profit was similar without them; he regrets it, because a bigger sales base is harder to lose.
What happened
$800 spend returned $3,000 revenue; profit a bit above the organic-only month; returns later diminished and ads were switched off

“So I was like, I need to be closer to a $1 range.”
“And then I started Basic, Apple search ads Basic campaign, and I spent $800, and I made $3,000.”
“Now I eventually turned it off, but I should have kept it on cuz it was working so great.”
