Cold-email new reporters, opening with a detail about them
Host says it gets attention; no coverage results given
Unknownpr-launchoutbound-sales
What they did
Target a reporter who just joined the publication (e.g. at TechCrunch). Spend 2-3 minutes on their profile, LinkedIn and X: greet them in their native language via Google Translate, mention a personal detail (e.g. their switch from engineer to reporter), then pitch. Subject line: 'Exclusive to <first name>'. It won't rescue a weak product but gets the email read.
What happened
Claims the pitch is far better than typical ones and gets attention
“what I'm trying to really find is somebody who just started there.”
“So now if I'm going to pitch this guy, I'm going to figure out like Google translation”
“You can use Exclusive to Ivan, or you can do this, Exclusive to Ivan.”
“Now is it going to land you press? No, cuz if your product sucks, he's going to refuse it anyways. But at least it'll get his attention”
