Build a novelty free tool (text to brainrot video) and push it on TikTok
100-200M views and 3,000 trials in days, but only ~$25K revenue

What they did
About 8-9 months after launch, Coconote built pdftobrainrot.com: paste long text and it turns into a Minecraft-parkour 'brainrot' video. Creators on the content team posted videos (text a long message, go to the site, paste it in, reveal the brainrot video) on TikTok and Instagram Reels. The site was a 'Trojan horse' meant to route students into the real study app.
What happened
One video hit 40M views and the feature 100-200M; ~3,000 trial starts over a couple of days (their best ever) but they converted to only ~$25K vs $360K if all had converted. Traffic was younger, lower-income and low-intent because the product was framed as a toy, not a solution.

In their words
The Superwall Podcast · Brett Bauman & Zack Hargett - COPY this ai app's $6.7m/yr marketing strategy“The irony of all this is that it doesn't convert well.”
“It's a little bit of a Trojan horse, right? So if we can get students in the door from this like brainrot-style video, very novel and unique, then in theory we could convert them into the actual product”
“It's not framing the product as a solution to a real problem. It's just more of a toy, and that's the big learning.”
