Cut up other people's unboxing videos, add a $5 voiceover and post on TikTok

Broke even for 1.5 months, then 200K views overnight and up to $2K/day

What they did

Picked products from AliExpress and listed them before owning stock. Tried 10+ products (Apple Watch bands, fidget toys) before knockoff AirPods Max worked. His own filmed content was bad, so he took others' unboxing and review videos of the real product, cut them up, paid a Fiverr voiceover ($5), added captions and posted on TikTok. Kept posting despite barely breaking even for 1.5 months; after the first hit he doubled down on that format.

What happened

One video hit 200K views overnight with a flood of Shopify orders. The first account reached 25K followers and 18M+ views. Revenue reached ~$2K/day ($50K/month per his website). The store was banned by Shopify, Wix and Stripe and shut after an Apple cease and desist.
Effort
10+ products tested; ~1.5 months of daily posting before the first hit

Dris Elamri… um, and and I tried selling it before I even got the product. It took like 3 weeks to ship at the time cuz it was hell of slow. And in between, I I think I tried like 10-plus products. I tried selling Apple Watch bands, I tried selling, uh, I don't know, like these fidget toys. Nothing really worked, um, and I remember when I I think I put in like, uh, a dollar, or $7 for the like the domain, a dollar for the 30-day free trial for Amazon,

Dris Elamriand I spent $20 buying the the headphones. And what I would do is I would take, uh At the start, I was like using my own content, but it was actually pretty bad, and I realized I could take other people's videos of, uh, like recordings of like unboxing like real AirPods Maxes or, uh, uh, like yeah, different videos like showing the the real product. I would cut it up, I would pay someone on Fiverr $5 to do a voiceover, I would, uh I would add captions, and then I would post it on TikTok.

Dris Elamri… I barely broke even. I, uh, was in a hackathon at my high school and in two days, I made, uh, $750. I think I got like second or third place. And I I was questioning like, I just spent two days, uh, making more money than I did like this whole like past two months trying to do the dropshipping thing, why am I even doing this? And I remember I went home that night, I, uh, made one more video, uh, I made two more videos. I think I I I posted them,

Dris Elamriand the next morning, I woke up, I I was in my my school bathroom, I I checked my phone, and, uh, I had like 200,000 views and my phone was blowing up with the the Shopify notifications. I was like, "Yo, this is hella crazy." Um, so yeah, I started doubling down. I I made, uh, like content in that same format. I I had like a series where, uh, people would comment like, "Do you ship to this country?" And our like, uh, like our thing was we shipped to every country and like $5 international shipping, free shipping domestic, and we had like promotions like,

Dris Elamri"Enter this code, you get free shipping. We have free shipping for the the next week for the New Year's," whatever. Um, which is also like a psychology thing. People do not want to pay for shipping. People want to pay for the product and and nothing else. Uh, they don't want to pay for for input and results, not the the the the BS or abstractions, uh, in between. And I remember, um, I had like 25,000 followers, uh, like, uh, 18 million views plus …
