Open onboarding with 'start at 18, have $1M at 65'; end with reviews

Founder says this order converts downloads to signups well; newest version not live

What they did

Onboarding revised almost every quarter. Order: urgency first (invest X at 18 and have $1M by 65; wait until 30 and end with ~$340K), trust badges (Forbes, Fox, Yahoo!, SIPC, YC), CTA copy changed from 'Continue' to 'Let's go' for college students, animated meme-stock visuals (Netflix, Tesla), frequent color changes so attention doesn't drop, a skip option, and customer reviews last for trust.

What happened

'Usually retained us pretty well in terms of downloads to actually signing up'; the newest edition shown was not live yet.

“if you invest X amount of dollars at age 18, which is earlier than normal, then you will make 1 million by 65. But if you wait until 30, you'll end up only about 340k.”

“We used to do this as continue, but now we do as "Let's go," where we're targeting more college students.”

“So we start with urgency, explain the app with a lot of animations and colors so they don't lose focus, and end give them trust by showing them trusted customer reviews.”
Jae Hwang
“And this usually retained us pretty well in terms of downloads to actually signing up.”
