Build onboarding as a conversation: goals, pain, past attempts, then your fix

Conversion rose from ~7% to ~16%; paywall reach ~70%

Workedonboarding

What they did

Modeled on Clear30's onboarding and Alex Hormozi's value equation (raise dream outcome and perceived likelihood, cut time delay and effort). Flow: 'Let us build your program', enter name, pick goals from many options (dream outcome), how much time you waste daily (pain), which apps are most addictive (later screens show that app), how it makes you feel (show the opposite feeling), 'What have you already tried?' followed by a screen explaining why each method (e.g. screen time limiters) fails, with tappable links to cited research, positioning the app as the best way to quit. Social proof screens sit between questions, and extra trust-building before the screen time and notification permission screens where many drop. A shorter version is being tested because the paywall rate is lower than they want.

What happened

Moving from a copied, framework-less onboarding to this customized version lifted conversion from about 7% to about 16%; paywall rate is ~70%.

“The whole time on this onboarding, we're trying to, you know, go into the the value equation of Alex Hormozi.”

“And we just tell them, "Okay, you tried this, but here's why you failed, like here's why this might not be a good option, or here's why this is actually a good option." And we we show like a bunch of research.”
Alejandro Sanchez

“Like, we're asking them, "So what apps are the most addicting to you?" And then we show a screen with specifically YouTube or TikTok, or whatever they chose.”

“And so we want to increase trustworthiness, because people will get to the permission screen, and they're like, "Oh, this app is like sounds super sketchy," right?”
