Let your community vote on designs, and build what they ask for 20+ times
Picked a better logo and shaped features; 'minute debt' was asked for 50+ times
Workedfeature-developmentcommunity
What they did
Post two design options (screens, logo versions, wireframes of a feature like the Duolingo-style 'journey' mode) in a Discord channel and let members vote (e.g. 102 votes on one choice), then redesign around the chosen version. Treat a suggestion seen ~20 times as a signal to build (the 'minute debt' feature, borrowing minutes to repay later, e.g. on a plane, was requested at least 50 times). Also use it to learn whether users care more about less phone time or more exercise. Works best for binary choices; keep your own vision rather than building every suggestion.
What happened
Faster design decisions, a better logo than the one they would have picked, and features users actually want.
- Stage
- Launch (post-launch)
“Or like like small design uh choices like this, you know, which one you like more, like 102 people voted like the right.”
“If you see like the the same suggestion like 20 times,”
“If you're on a plane trip or whatever, we got this like a suggestion like 50 times at least, and like even this this one has so many upvotes.”
“The logo as well, like um We We sort of like A/B tested the logo.”
