Pay a local contractor to wrap your core feature in a bare-bones iOS app
App was 'very bad' but drew early adopters and proved people would pay
Workedfeature-developmentvalidation
What they did
Founder built the maps himself and self-funded a local contractor to build a minimal iOS wrapper to get into the store quickly, to test whether people would pay. Everything besides the map was bare minimum. Also shipped an emergency-response feature he expected to be the hit; users ignored it and said they just wanted the map, so the team focused on the map.
What happened
Enough to attract early adopters and prove willingness to pay; showed which feature mattered.

In their words
Sub Club by RevenueCat · Navigating App Growth Through Strategic Partnerships and Media Wins — Adam Allore, Wavve Boating“So, I found a local contractor to essentially build that wrapper so that we could put these maps on an iOS device, and I could get some early traction with that.”
“And admittedly, like, it was bad, like it was it was very bad. It had the map, people like the map, but everything around it was like bare, bare minimum.”
“But it just kind of came back to like, "No, we just like the map." And I was like, "Okay. All right, we'll focus on that."”
