An app founder Steve knows (name not recalled on air)
Give ad-driven users a hard paywall and App Store searchers a closable one
Founder said it worked really well; no numbers

What they did
Use the 'How did you hear about us?' onboarding answer (or the Superwall + Appstack integration) to route users: answers like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok or other paid channels get a hard paywall with no X; 'searched the App Store' gets a soft paywall with a close X. Every source still sees a paywall. Aim: avoid 1-star reviews from organic users.
What happened
The founder told Steve it worked really well for him.
“if they put Instagram or Facebook or TikTok or any paid channel, you remove the X and you do a hard paywall”
“Superwall and Appstack has an integration that allows you to do that, and he said it worked really well for him”
