What they did
Launched a free-for-life plan and put it front and center everywhere, including ads ('free-for-life ads'), to attract very small price-sensitive maid services who may pay later. Everyone goes through the same signup requiring credit card details, even for the free plan, and gets a 14-day trial with all paid features before choosing.
What happened
~40% increase in trials; more social mentions in Facebook groups; many trial users stay on paid; some (mainly UK) stay free forever. Amar says it's worth it even at zero free-to-paid conversion
“even if zero people converted from the free plan to the paid plan, it would likely be worth it because of what an amazing marketing tool it is”
“everyone goes through the same signup process, even if you want to sign up for the free plan, you have to input your credit card information”
“whether you want the free plan or not, you get a 14-day trial with all of the paid features”
