Let people set up premium features in onboarding, then show what they'd lose

Users who opt into the calorie-cycling feature convert more; no exact numbers

What they did

Onboarding lets users set up premium features, first the 'Weekender' calorie-cycling feature ('Do you want more calories on the weekend?'). After the paywall, if the user taps X, a later screen lists the premium features they configured (e.g. intermittent fasting, Weekender) and asks whether to continue on basic without them or start the 7-day free trial. Each feature added to onboarding is A/B tested; only features with immediate day-one resonance are kept.

What happened

People who say yes to the Weekender question convert more; the approach relies on loss aversion after a ~10-minute survey.

“And we found that if we ask people, "Hey, do you want more calories on the weekend?" and they say yes, they convert more.”
Paul Apollo
“finding features that people can set up during onboarding, because it really introduces this idea of loss aversion, especially after you've spent like 10 minutes taking a survey.”

“It said, "Hey, these are part of the premium plan. Do you want to continue with the basic and not use these, or do you want to subscribe to premium to get access to all the features?"”
