Lock all macro-tracking features behind premium as a test
Earned little extra money and made users angry
Failedpaywallpricing
What they did
Years ago ran a test locking all macronutrient functions in the app behind premium. Since then the team rarely tests locking features and prefers testing messaging and positioning; new features are assigned to free or premium using a framework (free = enough to lose weight via calorie counting).
What happened
Not worth much money and made everyone really angry; the team now avoids moving free features behind the paywall.

In their words
Sub Club by RevenueCat · Achieving Mission & Profit with Freemium — Erin Webster-Shaller and Paul Apollo, Lose It!“We ran a test just to see what would happen a while back where we tried locking all macro functions in the app, and this was years ago, and it was not actually worth that much money to us, and it made everyone really angry.”
