$140K MRR Niche Dating App in Just 6 Months
… with that i'm like where are you from and they'll be like oh i'm from germany i'm like bro have you done enough in germany too because you understand that market a little bit better and i've seen a lot of apps do well in germany just in germany so i was like yeah like have you done everything you've done you could do in germany and they usually are like no so i love that you stayed true and just staying in france hey gabe like i want to ask you
like i know we're going to get into the ua side of things but how did you i mean you got one thousand dollars right when you turned on monetization but how did you get those users to get that one thousand when you turn so there was the run club that helped a lot at the very beginning like on the 26 of December, I remember like first weekend we had like 500 installs thanks to the run club. Cause at the end of the run club, I had like, you know, a thousand, uh, 500 followers, I would say. And we had made a wait list that was like 3k people. Uh, so like the first weekend was 500
installs, but we didn't have monetization back then. A month later we had monetization, but you know, there were already users on the app. It was tough. Density of people was tough. It's still tough but it was way more back then but still people paid and they seemed like they were okay to pay that was when i realized that we had something going on you know like people there weren't that many people on the app yet they the users still paid their …
… there, I want to ask you about there a downside that you remember? um so there were a lot of downsides i didn't know so i i'm i didn't have any entrepreneur adventure before that one that's my first one and i didn't realize it was that many ups and downs um but uh yeah for instance moderation is a big downside downside of dating apps uh having a lot of fake profiles so we as you say as you see on the on the slide we launched the app on the 26th
December. All right. So we started doing a bit of marketing, a very tiny bit of paid ads, but we have, we had the app on the store, maybe on the 24th of December. And during those two days, I asked, you know, friends, people very close to the run clubs to download and make a profile. And still in those two days, we had like maybe 10 to 20 fake profiles that were already going on the app and trying to do bad stuff on the app. So that's like, to give you an idea of the whole moderation inside a dating app. It's really a pain. And that's one of the downsides we had
later on as well. I love it. And I think I want to make sure you launched the Run Club. You tested some physical and you almost had distribution embedded in your product before you actually launched it physical. I love that you did that. And I did the same thing with having the podcast and the audience first and then started to think okay can't do my own thing and so it was six months into the pocket ended up leaving but i love that i love this …
