$140K MRR Niche Dating App in Just 6 Months
… app. But yeah, this was our philosophy. So we were like, all right, let's see what the others do and let's try to do something as good as them. And for a bit of a timeline on the app itself, so it was live on the 26th of December, we rolled out monetization on 23rd. I will remember the first weekend my whole life, I think. So the monetization was rolled out on a Friday. On a Monday, we had already made 1K in MRR. And 30 days later, it was 10K.
And six months in, it's 140K. But the first weekend, I'm definitely going to remember. That's crazy. Why wait a month? What was going on in your head with the monetization? Why not have monetization embedded right away? We just had it. We hadn't developed it yet. So basically the app was ready on the 26th of December. The monetization was definitely not. And we were like, we have to test the app and the features themselves without having this sort of blocker of the monetization.
Like maybe retention is going to drop because of monetization. So we wanted to test and see some few numbers before adding monetization and seeing some differences between before and after. In reality, we didn't look at the numbers before and we didn't look at the numbers after. but uh yeah well one thing i want to point out here too gabriel is like you download a lot of apps like i can see why your girlfriend's like no and you were like it was like the obvious ones like hinge and bumble but you obviously did all the like the more niche apps like field and it's
just like it was interesting to do that i love it dean was there any key takeaways that you got from this or like any key learnings or was it just understanding the onboarding the product it was more about understanding every aspect of the app because as i said again we didn't know anything about consumer apps especially not dating apps and building a social product we we knew it was going to be tough so we just wanted to understand it the best …
