Show a short demo video the first time someone opens a tricky feature
Unknownproduct-activationonboarding
What they did
For complicated features, play a screen recording or a creator explaining it the first time the user taps it, then never again (e.g. the punch-counter 'compete' challenge, then 'I got it. Let's go'). Creators record these for free because they like being in the app. Prompted by a sponsored creator who filmed a scripted video using the wrong feature because the pad-work button wasn't clear; they track usage in PostHog.
In their words
The Superwall Podcast · George Lampropoulos - Meet the ex-wrestler making $41k/mo with AI apps“Like, if the feature's complicated, we'll show a video demonstrating the feature the first time they click on it, and then we'll never show it again.”
“Or we'll like get one of the creators to like Like, have him literally sit down and explain how it works. And people love being in your app, so like they're always down. Like they'll do it for free.”
