TikTok slideshow tactics

How apps use TikTok photo slideshows to drive installs: formats, posting volume, accounts and results founders shared. 32 tactics from 17 founder interviews.

Most founders found one slideshow format that worked, often copied from a viral post or a rival, and then reposted it hundreds of times across many accounts with small changes. Several paid ordinary users or creators per view to post ready-made templates at volume. Views came easily, sometimes in the millions; downloads were less reliable, with some apps reporting very low conversion and formats that wore out within months.

Summary written 2026-09-26 from the tactics below. Figures are as founders stated them.

What worked, with the best evidence

GlamUp · B2C · AI makeup glow-up app

First post hit 10M views; millions of views a day at peak

Faceless TikTok slideshow: girl without makeup -> girl with makeup with GlamUp branding -> app screenshot of the personalized routine. Hundreds to thousands of posts used the identical on-screen hook ('never saw myself with the / right makeup routine' + two crying-face emojis on a third line), identical caption ('I will be unstoppable' + exhausted emoji), same hashtags and one of ~10 proven audios. On-screen text kept small and off-center, 'Gen Z Insta-girly' style. Hook wording, line count and text size were tested; other audios did not go viral. Earlier formats that failed: Latina makeup slideshows, color theory, celebrities, makeup tutorials. Posted across ~20 UGC creators' accounts.

Curiosity Quench · B2C · hobby app to quit doomscrolling

5M+ views, up to 1,000 downloads a day, and a $15K month; faded after ~3 months

Jack found an Instagram post with ~1M views: four pictures with a funny caption listing 'most attractive hobbies'. He remade it with hobbies from his app, using pictures of the app's widgets so viewers could tell where they came from, and a new caption. He posted it ~400 times over about a year across two accounts and reposts to TikTok and Shorts. Roughly every 20th video had the app itself in one of the pictures. He posted a download CTA as a comment and pinned it early, because thousands of commenters argued about the hobby lists and in the process saw the pinned comment. He never changed the format because making something new takes more effort than reusing what works.

Cardstock · B2C · sports card scanner app

~7,600 posts in a month for $2,600, about $1 CPM; biggest recent growth driver

Once the tips-slideshow format was proven in-house, they loaded it into Nois: 38 hook images, ~230 body images with captions, and a set of pre-written text hooks. Nois auto-generates a slideshow for each creator, who posts it on their own account; Nois handles attribution and payouts. The brand pays ~$1-2 CPM and Nois keeps half. Most posts get few views, but the volume adds up. The dashboard breaks results down by text hook and image, so the best hooks are visible. Nois put them in a Slack channel with advice. Earlier they tried paying creators CPM directly (a campaign on Growe, hiring via Sideshift, DMing people on TikTok) with a Google Drive of photos and pre-made hooks.

Practitioner pattern · Matt Espinoza (Founder of Clover, which sells the cloning, multi-country account and AI search/Reddit seeding services he recommends)

Copies get ~20% of the original's views on median; some get 2-6x more

Make ~90% of each campaign cloned content and ~10% new experiments. Take a post that already performed (yours or a competitor's), clone it and change one element: hook, CTA, avatar, colors, a slide image, text font/copy, creator, language or product demo. Choose subtle, moderate or dramatic variance so TikTok does not detect it as a duplicate (avoids shadowbans). Post the variations on other accounts. At a median of 20% of the original's views, 5-10 clones match the original's total volume. Feed winning hooks/CTAs/avatars into future campaigns.

A TikTok account selling truck gear · Clover client

34K views in 1.5 weeks, about a third of the original

Original TikTok slideshow '10 Trucker Essentials Amazon Edition' had 110K views. Cloned it in one click with variations: truck recolored blue, micro-details and some images changed, one slide swapped to feature the product being pushed directly. Posted on one aesthetically consistent account (all trucks) that posts only this cloned content.

Natural · B2C · digital camera app

~100K views and ~200 signups in 5 days

Identified Dazz Cam as a competitor and pulled its top five content pieces worth cloning. Example format: 'X + flash' photo slideshow where comment seeding then names the camera app. Pasted the link into Clover, cloned the slides, replaced the original image with the Natural logo ('Jake's logo plus flash'), generated three slideshow variations and launched the campaign. Whole process ~6-7 minutes including image generation (images clone in parallel, ~1-1.5 min each).

Flame · B2C · daily question app for couples

About 1% conversion, which the founder calls very high for organic

Slideshows made with Nano Banana and a text overlay. Slide 1 is a strong pain-point hook (e.g. a woman in a long-distance relationship asking 'how do you not mess it up? how do you not lose it?'). The next slide plugs the app. Then they seed the comments: the posting account and their other accounts drop comments promoting the product, including replies on comments that are already coming in. It was used especially when a post got little organic traffic.

Sway AI · B2C · dating profile feedback app

One branded Christmas Day post got ~4M views and $5-6K revenue in a day

New TikTok account started with aesthetic, fully unbranded carousels (photo backgrounds), testing no CTA vs a CTA on the last slide, to warm up the account. Once a few videos popped and views felt guaranteed, switched to full branding (orange theme) with the app plugged on every slide, e.g. 'five mistakes when flirting over text, dating advice from Sway AI app'.

Noise · app that pays people to post

About $0.30 per install on average; 2.5B views across the platform in a year

Instead of paying 5-10 creators to post twice a day, give up to 50,000 regular users everything: the assets, what to say and the description. They only curate their account and post on schedule, and get paid for every view. Brands set the CPM, usually from their target cost per install. With 100,000+ posts a day, something hits; if not, analytics show why and small tweaks to text, picture or first seconds can turn 1,000 views into 10M. Noise runs its own growth this way.

Playbite · B2C · mobile games for real prizes

First slideshow hit 20,000 views in a week; success led to building Noise

Took the ~30 most engaged users from the previous app's community and paid them to post TikTok content the team supplied as Canva slideshows (users could tweak text or add their own pictures). Because many players played Brawl Stars, slideshows covered Brawl Stars and ended with an explicit call to action: 'Playbite's the fastest way to get gems. If you know, you know.' About 35 people posted.

A healthy eating brand · B2C · early Noise customer

Higher-view slideshows consistently had eggs in the hook image; no numbers

Across many accounts posting healthy-eating slideshows for one brand, the higher-view ones always had eggs (hard-boiled or scrambled) in the first hook image, in an AI-generated Pinterest style. Eggs are instantly recognizable, healthy, cheap and achievable, so viewers relate and swipe to the next slide, a strong signal to TikTok.

Doof · B2C · food mood diary app

One post hit 5M views; app reached $1,000 in its first 30 days

Doof was built as a public challenge: make a mobile app in 30 days and take it from $0 to $1,000, marketed on Instagram, TikTok and Twitter. After a week of trying new formats with nothing popping, Jack went back to his tried-and-true slideshow format with a food meme ('people who eat like this feel good, sleep good, and poop good') and the app only mentioned in the caption ('feel good today by downloading Doof'). Goal: content that doesn't look like an ad. Used a standard Superwall paywall template.
